New review by Galadrius The Mighty for GAMERHUB has just dropped:

"I had a good time with these accessories. They’re easy to use, simple to put into place and provide better gameplay options."

There are a few companies on the market that like to make accessories that “snap on” to a controller, in an effort to give certain games that boosted “feel.” You know what I’m talking about, providing an extra layer of precision that you normally wouldn’t get from a routine analog stick.

Not everyone needs these, but I know there are some people out there that truly appreciate them. And that includes Thumb Soldiers.

This company makes some weird-looking (but high-performance) accessories that work with most game systems on the market, adding a little something to each type of game that’s played. Whether it’s racing, beat-em-ups or getting that boost with first-person shooters, there’s something here for everyone.

Racer

"...this set is pretty cool...Why don’t all controllers make foot pedal add-ons for your thumbs?"

The racer combi kit comes with two accessories for analog stick addition. The first is a round steering wheel type thing, where you stick your finger through and lean it to the sides in an effort to get more precision steering. The second is almost like a gas pedal, but well padded and comfortable to put the thumb on. For games that utilize the right analog stick for acceleration, it’s almost ideal.

I’ll admit, the steering wheel accessory feels odd at first. But if you’re a hardcore racing sim player that gets into, say, Gran Turismo, it’s not bad at all. Plus the secondary analog add-on is excellent, providing comfort while looking like a foot pedal.

Studs

No, this doesn’t mean you’re a stud. Calm down. But you can use studs to enhance your performance, namely with first-person shooter games.

These are two general add-ons that lengthen your analog sticks for better precision. What’s more, they have little direction print-outs on top, which fit comfortably around your thumb. This enables better movement when using them together.

I’ll admit, this is the most basic set of the four I’ve tried. But the Studs work very well, especially with the Call of Duty games. Plus they won’t wear and tear on your thumbs like regular analog sticks. You can finally give them a break. Whew.

Step Up

"...allows for more secure movement with certain games – like stealth, for example. Being able to switch between the two is really handy."

This is probably the strangest of the ones in our review package. The Step Up  consists of two multi-level add-ons. That’s right, multi level. They have thumb sets on top of thumb sets.

Still, some players are sure to enjoy this level of versatility and design. Just be prepared for the dual style of play – it may not be for everyone.

Knuckles

No, not the echidna. Knuckles are the accessory that enable you to lock these controller functions in place. They snap onto your controller with ease, without any sort of burden or unneeded tool.

So Are They Worth It?

The real question is if the Thumb Soldiers are worth the purchase. That really depends on your game playing style. If you’ve been lacking a bit and need something to increase performance, then, yes. They’re worth a look. But if you’re happy with your general analog play, these may seem unnecessary.

Keep in mind they serve a greater purpose for some, though. Remember, accessibility is a growing thing and not everyone plays the same way. The Thumb Soldiers can really open up on that level. For those looking to open up to game experiences, they’re well worth a look.

I had a good time with these accessories. They’re easy to use, simple to put into place and provide better gameplay options. Plus the racing one is excellent. Why don’t all controllers make foot pedal add-ons for your thumbs?
